Hi all.
Decided to give facebook a try yesterday. It was pretty rubbish, to be honest. For a start, you can't blog! Shock horror! Where would I be with nowhere to blog?? And it takes, like, a minute to upload a single photo, when on the lowly Windows Live Space you can upload a whole folder of photos in around the same time. And on facebook, you have to go though and click every individual photo, wait for it to load, open up the folder, find the next photo. click. wait. And once it's there, you can't rotate it either. Or at least, it's not obvious. On Windows live it was easy as pie to find the rotate button, but no clues on facebook. And where's the customization??? Where's the funky colours, the cool backgrounds, the jazzy fonts? The horrible, pristine blue and white decor looks like something out of a school or a hospital, and that's the last thing I want to be thinking of when I'm chilling out. So no, don't believe the hype. Facebook is way too boring for those of us who aren't robots.

Vampire Weekend
Hi all.
I've decided I'm not going to bore you to death with my story about going walkabout yesterday; you have much better things to be doing. But one thing somes puzzle me: I've never been that good a cloud-watcher, but on my way back, I saw a random conglomeration which reminded me of the prow of some enormous boat, with a person at the front, sort of Titanic-style. And five minutes later, I swear the same group of clouds had morphed into an eagle's head. I wonder what they could mean??
Anyway, this entry is called 'Vampire Weekend' not because I suddenly like that band, but because I have had an entire weekend of reading the Stephenie Meyer books: Twilight and now New Moon. Let me tell you: They are definitely worth reading. Anyway, yeah, proper review to come. But help me out with my dilemma in the poll.
Also, I've just endured the toughest, most tedious day of rehearsals in the world. Admittedly it looks fantastic now, but it was so exhausting! I need to go and chill. See you tomorrow, everyone...

Gone Walkabout
Hi folks.
I couldn't stand being cooped up in this semi-suburbia any longer. So I went for a walk. I had no idea where I was going, but I started to head off in a vague direction away from civilisation. Sadly, it wasn't easy to shake off. As I walked, I started to think that the path was an odd reflection of my life at the moment: On one side, rolling fields and limitless sky, on the other, foreboding barbed wire fences looming over me. Not the ideal place to be. And I'm not a huge fan of sitting on fences, either. I suppose I'm an everything or nothing sort of person: Give me the big city any day, or untamed countryside the same. Anything in between just seems depressing to me. Weird, huh?
But anyway, after a while I finally broke away from the foreboding fence, and what should I find? A bridge over an old disused railway! Now, I'll confess my railway-loving side has been a bit neglected since I entered adolescence, but the old pathway just looked so...countryside-ish. It's hard to describe. So I took some pictures.
But you'll have to wait until tomorrow for them, as well as the rest of the story, because I appear to be out of time. Also, I'd like you to know that I have made the effort to read Twilight, and it was actually really enjoyable. Not much action, but a good plot. It's nice to read something that sounds like it's actually written by humans, for a change, instead of all this fancy grown-up 'literature'. I'd really like to do a proper review, but with so many other things going on, I think it would be safer to wait until I've finished the series. All day tech rehearsal tomorrow; that'll be fun. Not! Oh well, I'll have New Moon to rattle through.
Oh yeah. And be careful when opening any link that someone sends to you over MSN. There's a virus going round. It's not hard to fix but it's even easier not to get it in the first place. Take caution. Someone out there has a lot to answer for.

Excellent...
For once I actually feel on top of my life. If there was going to be any drama soon now would be the ideal time because I wouldn't have anything else to worry about. I quite enjoy drama, actually. It's better than sitting doing nothing. Drama and listening to other people's conversations. Seriously, you learn loads of interesting stuff.Anyway, I'd better get down the gym for a bit before my rehearsal. See y'all tomorrow.

So THAT's why it's called Legacy
Hi folks!
I'm in a good mood. Today I finally got round to completing the so-called 'Legacy' quest from Star Wars Galaxies. For those who don't know, it's an online game a bit like Everquest or that other one... World of Worthlessness... only set in the Star Wars universe. Geeky, huh? I don't care. But yeah, basically you go around and do missions and you can be a Wookiee, or a bounty hunter, or a Jedi (GRRR), and when you start the game you are given this ongoing plot called the 'Legacy' quest. And people joke that it's called that because it's so long you have to pass it on to your children, who pass it on to their children etc, which i find quite amusing. 'Cos they're right, it does go on for ever. But today I finished it! It was a bit of an anti-climax to be fair. It being Star Wars, you'd expect to be facing off against Darth Vader or some other Sith Lord, or battling against Imperial walkers, or discovering an uber-powerful Force artefact, or juming across a bottomless pit, or...well, you get the picture.
But no. At the end of this adventure, you kill a spider.
Admittedly, it's a massive 10-metre high spider queen thingy, but even so, it's not very Star Wars-y, is it? If I wanted to kill spiders I would play World of Weariness, or some other generic LotR rip off. I don't see how the awesome, ANH-esque opening of the game, which sees you blasting stormtroopers with Han and Chewie on a weird space station before launching into space and shooting up TIE fighters from the blaster cannons of the Millenium Falcon, can dengenerate into what is, essentially, Everquest with mad scientists. I dunno, I guess it's time to go and find me a proper Star Wars adventure. Just don't get your hopes up.

Groundhog Day
It's Groundhog Day.
Hold that thought; I'll come back to it. Quiet and meaningful songs seem to be on the up again in my life: First Sara Bareilles and some other lady do an awesome Winter Song with a brilliant video, and now 'Rose' has entered my life. Don't google her, you'll come up with 20 gazillion different artists. She sings in English but I think she's French. Either that, or I've got her mixed up with the French Rose who looks and sounds very similar and was in the same section of iTunes. One way or another, all six of her songs are beautiful and epic, a bit like Amy MacDonald. I'd definitely reccomend her to anyone who liked that song from the end of Prince Caspian when they went through the tree.
Anyway, there's chance I'll be able to get a band together from people in my year. I would get Tom involved from the year below, as it was our joint idea in the first place, but it's difficult to coordinate when I'm in an almost completely separate part of the school to him and I only go back to my proper hometown once a week at the most. But don't worry, you can join us next year. Anyway, that's quite exciting, and I'm sure we'll be churning out number ones faster than a binary computer (aka Rihanna) before long. So far there's me as pianst/keyboardist and a possible singer and a possible drummer. And speaking of the band, I managed to bung Rose, the Time Machine, angst at Groundhog Day syndrome and a couple of other magic ingredients into the music grinder and create this ferocious beast:
.
The Songs That Remind Me Of You
.
I found paradise
Looking for a place to hide my head.
Woke me up when all I wanted to do
Was put my thoughts to bed.
Don’t know how I got there,
Couldn’t go back, even though I wanted to.
But now the radio’s playing
The songs that remind me of you.
.
Let me go, so I can find the fastest
Road back to my home.
Oh, the longer I stay with you,
The more my heart is bound to roam.
Oh, just let me go, so I can find another
Chance to start anew.
Now the radio’s playing
The songs that remind me of you.
.
Oh, the Sun’s coming down, and there’s no-one around,
And I’ve got nothing to do.
But the radio’s playing
The songs that remind me of you.
.
I made a list of a thousand things
I wanted you to say.
Don’t close the curtains, I’m scared that I
Won’t see the light of day.
Sometimes you’ll say I’m lonely,
And I’ll wish that that were true,
But now the radio’s playing
The songs that remind me of you.
.
Time goes by, and I can’t tell
What tomorrow’s Sun will bring.
But maybe one of these days, you’ll hear at last
The lonely song I sing.
Well, until that day, I’ll go my way,
And see the battle through.
As the radio plays
The songs that remind me of you.
.
Oh, the Sun’s coming down, and there’s no-one around,
And I’ve got nothing to do.
But the radio’s playing
The songs that remind me of you.
.
Oh, I found paradise
Looking for a place to hide my head.
(I found paradise
Looking for a place to hide my head.)
I found paradise
Looking for a place to hide my head.
(I found paradise
Looking for a place to hide my head.)
I found paradise
Looking for a place to hide my head.
(I found paradise
Looking for a place to hide my head.)
I found paradise
Looking for a place to hide…
.
Oh, the Sun’s coming down, and there’s no-one around,
And I’ve got nothing to do.

And I’ve got nothing to do.
But the radio’s playing
The songs that remind me of you.
.
Oh, the radio’s playing
The songs that’ll get me through.
.
Oh, the radio’s playing
The songs that I never knew.
.
Oh, the radio’s playing
The songs that remind me of you.
.
Of you…

Anyway, enough of that silliness. You want to know about Groundhog Day. Well, yeah. Everyone reading this must know about my series of complete failures in the romance department. Anyway, a few months ago I thought I had finally found someone. But it turns out today that all she wants is to be 'really good friends'. How does that song by the Rogue Traders go? "I never liked you, even when I tried to". Well, maybe that is a bit strong, but it's how I feel now. Deja Vu? Most probably... To be honest, once you've been rejected nine or ten times, it doesn't really hurt you. It's like having the poke-proof coat on (another story). And besides, I was actually quite enjoying being single. So what does the future hold? It seems that's not for me to decide. Ah well, all this time we were pretending. So much for my happy ending.

Is It A Bird? Is It A Plane? NO! It's SUPERBUS!
Salut!
I have discovered Superbus. There a French band who do pop/rock like the Veronicas' first album. Very cool. A bit Disney, I guess, but very cool. And I expected French music to not be as good as Spanish. And...well...it isn't. But it's still very good! I'm gonna check out some other stuff as well, when I have the time. But yeah. Superbus. Look 'em up.
Not much else to report, but I should probably be doing some revision for History tomorrow. What a blast! Or not...
See ya round

The Words Not Said
Hi guys and gals.
I'm having a moment. I'll come back to it, because it's a bit deep and personal. Hah, now you're hooked! But anyway, today I watched "The Motorcycle Diaries". For those who don't know, it's a Spanish movie about the young Che Guevara travelling with his friend from the bottom of Argentina to Peru. On the way he meets lots of people and experiences new cultures which lead him on the first steps toward Communism. Please, don't get me wrong, it's not because it promotes Communism that I like it. I honestly couldn't care less about any kind of politics, whether they're 'good' or 'bad'. It was just interesting because of all the different cultures he encounters, the different places, or the different people. It was really thought provoking. But it's hard to imagine it as a true story. I mean, I know it's all canon within reason. Well, it's probably all canon, if they really based it off his diary, but I couldn't imagine anyone I know going on an adventure like that. But yeah, there you go. If you don't mind foreign movies, I'd really reccommend it.
OK, serious time. 'The Words Not Said'. So, I was chatting to my girlfriend on Messenger today, and she came up with: 'it's time to talk about us.' Anyway, I was all ready to tallk about 'us', cos I love our conversations about 'us'. But for some reason we never had that conversation. So I went and got some food and when I got back, it 'didn't matter' any more. Well, I have a feeling I knew what she wanted to say. And I suppose I can get away with writing it here because hardly anyone ever reads it. But yeah, I get the impression she wants to be with someone else. Probably 'Grant', whoever he is. But at least I saw it coming this time. I guess it's not really working anyway, we've only had the time to meet up a few times.
But anyway, there's a chance I'm completely wrong and she still loves me etc etc, however slim that chance. So I'm not sure what happens next. Do I bring it up somehow, or should I just act Mr Nonchalant and pretend to be surpriesd when it does happen?I don't know, but I want it sorted out soon, so I can get on with whatever. And if she does want to be with someone else, that's OK. I know there must be a million better guys than me out there. But it's just the uncertainty of not knowing one way or the other. Ah well, we'll see. Until next time,
Jack.

Everyone Lives!
Howdy y'all.
What a spine-tinglingly brilliant ending to Doctor Who: Forest of the Dead. You gotta love opening the TARDIS door with a click of your fingers. What other TV shows can you do that on, huh? Huh?? And everyone lives...wait, let me do the maths (or just 'math' if you're American)...Yes! That's right. Everyone does live...in a round about way. If it was me, I wouldn't have counted the 'saved' people, but for optimism's sake I suppose you could. Series 5 with Steven Moffat is going to be awesome if it's all like this. And I maintain, I've heard rumours the Daleks are killed off within the first half. I don't know whether to believe that or not, but...
It's gotta have something to do with River Song. I mean, people are still discussing who's going to be the next companion, but surely it can't be anyone other than Alex Kingston? I mean, Moffat wrote her in, so surely it would be down to him to continue her story. And it's easy to see how she could mistake David Tennant for 'her' Doctor (presumably Matt Smith), because they do look similar. And half the series is mapped out already. What was it - The crash of the Byzantium, whole armies turning and running before him, picnic in Asgard (OK, not too sure about the action appeal of that one)...Well, we'll see. At least we'll know what'll happen to her, and him.
So many questions! Like, how did Song get Captain Jack's squareness gun (apparently they are one and the same)? Where did the magic blue book that so closely resembles the TARDIS come from? When does the Doc upgrade his sonic screwdriver? And, perhaps most importantly, WHAT IS THE DOCTOR'S TRUE NAME? He says at the end of FotD, "there's only one time [he] could" tell someone his name. Notice the use of the word could. Is there actually something preventing him? Maybe it's like an emergency thing, if he's on his last regeneration or something, or if the Time Lords came back. I don't know. I'm sure we'll find out sooner or later. 'Answers are coming', as Lost followers would say.
Anyway, just chucking those ideas out there. I need a new poll. Hm...
See ya 'round,
Jack

Hm...
See ya 'round,
Jack

Well I Bet That You Look Good On The Dancefloor...
...Dancin' to electropop like a robot from 1984, oh from 1984! Tune! Makes me wonder why I don't have any more Arctic Monkeys stuff. Shame. Anyway, what's been going down today...Not much, really. Except I had a brilliant idea to just talk in song lines for a day. How cool would that be? Yeah, maybe it would get a bit tricky. Nothing else to report really, but watch this space. Better days are coming...

Ood Curling
Hi folks.
You've gotta love the Ood. They're just...so...Ood-like. Well, duh. But it made me think - The Ood planet is a snowy place, like Hoth. So it must be pretty boring just sitting around there. I mean, OK, there's that cool telepathic singing malarkey, but what about when you're bored of that? What do they do then? Build snowmen? Toboggan? Curling?? Just a thought. There can't be many options though if you have to carry your brain around with you all the time. They should make, like, little pockets in the Ood's robes to put the brain in. There. Problem solved. Defenseless no more. Aaaaaanyway...
Last night I downloaded "Let It Rock", by that Rudolph guy. Yeah, that's his name. 'That Rudolph guy'. But yeah, it's quite funky. In fact, this might even be one of the few times I've actually liked popular music. No doubt I'll get bored of it after a while, but it's not a bad song. In a similar vein, why is "America's Suitehearts" the next FOB single?? They've done way way way better songs than that. My money was on "What a Catch" or "The (shipped) Gold Standard". Let downs. Oh well, they can't be brilliant all the time. Also, 'Da me mas, quiero mas, siempre mas, necesito maaaaaas'. Awesome choonage from LOVG, even though they don't have Amaia any more, I'm sorely tempted to get theirn new album "A Las Cinco en el Astoria". Don't ask me what that translates as; something to do with 5. Which makes sense, cos there's 5 of them. I'm rambling. Next!
Some school mates in my year approached me today about being in a band, so I said yeah, why not. I assume there'll be an audition thing, and then they want to do Knights of Cydonia. It's a start, I guess. Maybe once we become a bit more integrated I can put some of my own material forward. We'll see. I also want to get my hands on sheet music from the new FOB album, but it doesn't seem to have been made available yet. Or at least, Boosey and Hawkes doesn't have it, and they have pretty much everything as far as sheet music goes. This is boring you, I can tell.
Where are Yivvits and MrBubble?!!! Have they dropped off the face of the Galaxies, never to be seen again? Or maybe they just couldn't be bothered to do a Christmas special this year. Shame, I was really looking forward to it. Well, I hope they return to form very soon. Similarly, I worked out today that I might be able to create a podcast using this site. I mean, I sort of have a domain, I guess, and I have an RSS feed, and that's all you need, isn't it? We'll see! Watch this space...
Until then, I'd better crack on with some work. Oh, the joy.

Showbusiness and Snow Business
Hi folks!
So call me whimsical, or whatever, but Patrick Stump (You'd know for being the lead singer of FOB, but he's done other stuff as well) is one of my favourite 'celebs' at the moment. Don't get me wrong, I'm not one of these showbiz-obsessed types who read Heat magazine, but it's nice to have a couple of the more interesting semi-celebrities up your sleeves as a talking point every now and then. But yeah, Patrick Stump. He's great because he can do deadly serious and funny in equal measures. Like, the guy in the video for I Don't Care is so different to the bespectacled cap-wearing type suggested by his website, and yet they are one and the same man! Those hats are pretty cool, as well, especially the black one he's wearing in IDC. Wouldn't be surprised if that ends up on e-bay alongside David Tennant's coat from Doctor Who and Avril Lavigne's pink glittery microphone. Hehehe... And Mr Stump has taught me something new: Blue was originally associated with boys because it was said to bring good luck in battle. Pink for girls, meanwhile, was only chosen because it complemented blue and has "no super powers"! So there!
Anyway, Matt Smith is the Doctor!! The whole world knows this by now, but I'm going to add my comment for consideration anyway. I think it's an...interesting choice. I like the fact that they completely ruined all the bookies' predictions and cost a load of people a load of money. The fools! OK, so I was wrong, it's not Harry Lloyd, but he's close enough for me. I saw him in the Sally Lockhart programmes, and, much as the plots made my head explode with confusion, Smith was pretty good in his role as the photographer guy. Good job he died in the second one, otherwise he might not have been our Doctor! I reckon he should play it with a cockney accent, 'cause I've always loved that accent. People at school complain about the vastness of his chin, but I'm more worried about his massive hairdo type thing. Let's hope he calms that down a bit before the show. Other than that, he strikes me as being a bit of a mini David Tennant. It's really to early to say. Let's not forget, after all, that characters are defined as much by the script as the actor. What new plans has Steven Moffat got in store for us??
Progress with Aladdin is coming on verrry smoothly. I seem to have exchanged my dancing for weapon-brandishing again. Ah well, suits me. This time around, I have a proper (well, almost) sword to play with, rather than just some toy gun. How cool is that going to be. And all the others are doing brilliantly. And the stage! How awesome is the stage?! It has a throne, a dragon, a hidden spaceship, a washing machine. What more could you want? By the time we're all costumed up, it's going to look brilliant. But we have to do 7 performances?? Now that's more like it!
Not much else to report on that front. I was annoyed this morning to find out that almost everyone else had a hugely massive amount of snow outside their doors, yet here there was hardly any! I'd love to go sledging at some point, but the problem is we have no snow, and no hills. Maybe I'll have to reduce myself to just snowmen this year. But how come everyone else got snow and not us?
So, that's about it today. keep tuned in for more exciting adventures as the week goes on. Over and out,
Jack

Reset
It's 2009!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Time I reviewed the past year, as everyone else seems to be doing at the moment. I would have done this yesterday, but with one thing and another I ran out of time. So, let me take you back 365 days...
JANUARY - Blimey, that was still Year 11. Anyway, in this month I discovered the musics of SFG, Paramore and the Veronicas, which have pretty much changed my musical tastes...for the better, of course. Jumper flopped - It had some great ideas, but a rubbish plot. Um...My first taste of Torchwood. Can't say I'll ever prefer it over Doctor Who, but it wasn't bad. And school continued to trundle along, with a vague idea of my next subjects. About time I had a word with Blondie, but I guess that can wait until...
FEBRUARY - Yep, Valentine's day, wasting yet more money on Blondie. Is she worth it? Around this time I make a move to go and see Avril live - my first gig - in May. What else...Nope, that's pretty much it on the February side.
MARCH - I unearth a trio of treasures - Fall Out Boy, Panic at the Disco and Boys Like Girls. The ominous Move begins to loom as we find out exactly when it'll happen. At the end of the month, French orals go swimmingly, and I feel confident for the others to come...
APRIL - Right. So Blondie doesn't want to do Avril and doesn't want to hit the Jazz Festival. I feel like I've reached a dead end. Time to reset, find someone else. More Orals, for Spanish and Italian, which I manage to hold together. Other than that, a very quiet period. Easter, mind you. Oh, and Iron Man. Was that April, or...
MAY - OK, a lot happened in May. First of all, we were on Study Leave at last. ploughing my way through exams, I somehow found time to see Iron Man, Indy 4 and Avril in concert, though not with Miss JW, she was 'too busy'. Yivvits and MrBubble provided an escape from everyday life, as did ironing in front of Heroes. No, wait, that comes after...
JUNE - A lot of sitting at home, revising, exercising, and ploughing through exams. Finally, the end came in sight. And...relax.
JULY - My birthday!!!!!!! The iPod Touch has changed my life, as has Heroes. Legacy of the Force concludes, Boba Fett's happy ending still not in sight. Everyone else breaks up, and the Move is on! It's quite an experience, as I haven't had to move house for 12 years, but somehow we managed, so that I can be here now to type this in my new, bigger, not necessarily better house.
AUGUST - After volunteering for a week at a nearby cafe, it was time for a holiday! We headed off to France, Italy and Switzerland to have an awesome time with friends and family. It was great getting out and about by myself and experiencing the great cultures. And the food! Anyway, it couldn't last, because soon it was...
SEPTEMBER - Which saw the start of Sixth Form! All Change! What a great new building we have, and great subjects too! The independence was vast improvement fromthe year before, even if there was a little too much work. I also made a awesome new friend, and I don't know how I'd have coped with the start of the year without her brilliant sense of humour. Rehearsing for Midsummer Night's Dream began, and about this time I began this blog! Anyway, life floated by until...
OCTOBER - What happened in October? Um...I got tickets to see SFG in Cardiff, I did some other stuf...Well, not much really.
NOVEMBER - So, Midsummer Night's Dream went down an absolute blast. I had great fun and loved every minute of it. Can't wait for the next one! Also, I attended the incredible SFG gig, and I'm still waiting for them to make the DVD. I would love to go back an see them again next year, but it's time they did some new material, I think. In this month, I finally found love. I guess that's not bad! But anyway...
DECEMBER - Christmas was quite quiet this year, and, well, I've been over it quite recently, so you know what happens.
So, 2008 is all in the past now. Time to gear up for my next big adventure. are you with me?
