Hi folks!
I'm in a good mood. Today I finally got round to completing the so-called 'Legacy' quest from Star Wars Galaxies. For those who don't know, it's an online game a bit like Everquest or that other one... World of Worthlessness... only set in the Star Wars universe. Geeky, huh? I don't care. But yeah, basically you go around and do missions and you can be a Wookiee, or a bounty hunter, or a Jedi (GRRR), and when you start the game you are given this ongoing plot called the 'Legacy' quest. And people joke that it's called that because it's so long you have to pass it on to your children, who pass it on to their children etc, which i find quite amusing. 'Cos they're right, it does go on for ever. But today I finished it! It was a bit of an anti-climax to be fair. It being Star Wars, you'd expect to be facing off against Darth Vader or some other Sith Lord, or battling against Imperial walkers, or discovering an uber-powerful Force artefact, or juming across a bottomless pit, or...well, you get the picture.
But no. At the end of this adventure, you kill a spider.
Admittedly, it's a massive 10-metre high spider queen thingy, but even so, it's not very Star Wars-y, is it? If I wanted to kill spiders I would play World of Weariness, or some other generic LotR rip off. I don't see how the awesome, ANH-esque opening of the game, which sees you blasting stormtroopers with Han and Chewie on a weird space station before launching into space and shooting up TIE fighters from the blaster cannons of the Millenium Falcon, can dengenerate into what is, essentially, Everquest with mad scientists. I dunno, I guess it's time to go and find me a proper Star Wars adventure. Just don't get your hopes up.
Jack
